 "Highly Recommended" 2009-08-23
By William A. Renfroe
Just to echo some of the other reviews, this is a great shredder for the price. I purchased this shredder at Costco for

$100. There are less expensive shredders with similar features (including

Fellows), but this thing is more powerful and quieter. It is large (7-gallon bin) and heavy, but has the pull-out bin (don't have to remove cutter assembly), bin window and full bin indicator. It has all the features (safety and convenience)and is easy to use. I don't intend to use it for CD / DVD destruction, but I tried it with 12 sheets of 24lb paper and the motor barely slowed. My previous shredder was a Royal M85X. Not a bad unit, but the stop sensor failed and she was very noisy and couldn't handle my recent home office paper purging and died. For home office use, I really can't see spending more than the $100 I paid, nor would I recommend anything less "heavy duty". There are a few decent light use $60 shredders out there, but there is also alot of junk...just read the reviews and check the shredders at your local stores.

 "Overheats and jams" 2009-08-03
By FL guy (Orlando, FL)
Mine oveheated after less than 5 minutes of continuous use (nothing heavy, just normal shredding). It stops working and then you'll have to wait for it cool down for about an hour before it works again. I'm very disappointed, and retuning mine for a better model.

 "Buying another new shredder" 2009-07-18
By J. Brenner (Chicago, IL)
Just purchased this shredder. I hope it lives up to the expectations everyone has said. Must remember to use the oil to keep blades lubricated. Just recently was told that was why previous machines were no longer working. Amazing, this time Fellowes actually put in a small bottle of the liquid. Perhaps too many complaints! It is definitely much more quiet than the others. Tried a few papers had on hand. So far so good. The test will come when there are lots to do. The basket is also larger so more will fit in. The basket insert also comes out from unit instead of lifting top piece off. Much more convenient than carrying entire basket. Shred on.

"Whoa, this thing is strong" 2009-07-07
By M. Wells (Wiesbaden, Germany)
This thing is amazing. It shreds 12-14 pages at a time without struggling or slow-down. All I can say is, this product is great! I previously owned an 8 page cross cut shredder that would jam up all the freaking time, even if you only put 5 or 6 pages through it. But the Fellowes Powershred DM-12C destroys the competition and does what it says it will.

 "Fabulous shredder, but smells" 2009-05-09
By Lucky Girl (USA)
This shredder is strong - shreds everything I put in, never complains, and has a bin that is easy to empty. I like that it would be almost impossible to turn this on by mistake and has an easy reverse button. It is designed extremely well.

I'm surprised that nobody else mentioned this, but it smelled strongly of chemicals - denatured mineral spirits or acetone or something - when we first opened the package. I am not normally sensitive to new machine smells, but this was excessive. I didn't want to return it because I like the machine - good design can be hard to find - so put it on our enclosed porch for the first weeks to avoid breathing fumes. It's not bad now, but it still has a little odor so I'm just waiting it out. I hope to put it inside in another month or so.

I would give it 5 stars, except for the company's lack of attention the fume issue. It's a great little shredder.
