I've used it for less than a year. Already fixed it once by taking the thing apart. Just broke again. Not going to bother with it again... I'm getting a better one.



Overheats very easily too.



Has trouble with credit cards even though it's supposed to shred them just fine.



Summed up... Royal shredders are GARBAGE. Other than the motor and the blade it's all plastic components.

It amazes me how every shredder on Amazon has some negative review that states it's the worst thing since Hitler. Every shredder regardless of price needs to be oiled in order to prevent the paper particles from drying out the gears. Buy paper shredder lube or if that's too messy get the 8x12 oiled paper sheets that they sell at Staples or any office supply store.



And try not to be Ollie North and shred 500 pages in one sitting. When the shredder breaks down that's not a manufacturing defect, that's basic science.

I just got the shredder and it couldn't even shred 4 sheets of paper. It seemed to struggle with shredding just 2 sheets of paper. I've had other shredders before and none of them were this poorly made.

At the end of June 2009, we purchased the Royal MC50MX 5-Sheet MicroCut Shredder as a replacement for the same product we had purchased over a year ago. The most recent purchase worked for one month and quit. No amount of TLC will get it to come to life. In that one month period it did a great job turning our financial records into paper powder. However, one would expect it to last longer than a month. I mentioned earlier that the recent purchase was a replacement for one that we had purchased previously. That one also did a great job shredding until it met it demise by making a clunking sound and finally quit. When it works, it does a great job. It just does not last very long.

This shredder is OK for small jobs, no more than three sheets at a time and it's not as noisy as others I've owned. If you need to shred multiple sheets and lots of them, expect to spend at least $100.00.

This shredder can barely shred 2 pieces of paper at a time let alone the 5 that it claims and it fills up very quickly causing the paper to jam up. Not terribly useful except for small jobs and occasional use. On a good note, the narrow size is very handy.

This shredder is a waste of time. Do not buy it. Even if you just want to shred the odd letter it is weak and feable. Mine died after a few weeks, the reason why: A thin little mock credit card glued to a pre-approval notice that I shredded killed it. I understand the five sheet rule but say you have five sheets and a fold in one of them it will grind to a stop. Stay clear of this thing looks great but what a waste of money..
