This shredder is garbage. I rarely used it, but after two consecutive use of this product. It got broke. It won't shred anymore and i can hear that it's broken because it sound so bad. This is ridiculous. What a piece of junk! I would never buy this product again... EVER! A piece of garbage. i wasted my money. I rarely used it and only used it not even 20 times in 6 months. Stay AWAy!

This unit was manufactured for Staples by a third party company. The unit has a design flaw where the unit will simply not turn on. It turns out that a fuse regularly blows on the unit's circuit board, rendering the unit non-functional. Not so bad, right? Wrong. The fuse is soldered to the circuit board, so the whole board needs replaced whenever the fuse blows. I had one unit die after several months, sent it in, only to have the replacement unit blow the same fuse within a few weeks. Staples also does not stand behind this product. Repairs beyond the limited warranty are your problem, even though it clearly has a design flaw (a search of the internet for "spl727mm problem" suggests as much). Avoid all Staples brand shredders (since you can't know which ones are designed and manufactured by which third party company... clearly the company that designed this shredder didn't do a very good job). Go with a quality shredder like those made by Fellowes. They cost about the same, and they are quality products with a lifetime warranty.

I was excited to use this shredder to tackle a mountain of accumulated personal papers, but the machine constantly gave out. Jams even when I was feeding three sheets of paper at a time. The reverse button did nothing. There is no way the overheat protection circuit was tripped since it never even got to run long enough to get warm. Sadly, this was a gift, and I tossed the packaging, so no returns for me. Grrr... I'll have to find something stronger.

The concept of this shredder is good and it's attractive looking. However, mine will now end up in the garbage way too early as the power just cut out on it all of a sudden after minimal use. I am not the only one this happened to. The customer service for Staples is terrible. I don't know why they don't give a refund or recall to a product that is so obviously flawed. Do NOT buy this shredder!

The shredder worked fine for several months. Then I had an intermittent problem with the on-off switch (worked, didn't work, worked, etc.) Finally it failed altogether, but it was out of warranty and Staples was of no help. Worse, I'm an engineer and consider myself to be fairly handy, but the way the machine is put together, there is no way to access the screws that hold it together - thus, I was unable to fix it myself.

I bought this for my small office--under 14 employees. I like the quantity of paper it will accept; however, since it is not a cross-cut or confetti cut shredder, the shredded paper is long & bulky. It fills up the bag too quickly I the machine won't run if the bag is too full. Overall, it is a good machine.
