My summer goal was to go through old boxes and files to get rid of the papers and clutter that were taking over my office. Having bought a great scanner, I decided to go digital for everything, but then I was left with the task of shredding old documents. I scanned and shredded so much that I broke my five year old Fellowes shredder. Having had such a great experience with Fellowes I decided to purchase another one. I looked online for reviews and finally settled on the PS-79Ci. At the Fellowes site, it didn't specifically say that this machines was for HEAVY home office/personal use...because I don't normally shred tons of paper...with the exception of my summer goal of cleaning out my home office. But it's totally fine. The shredder is relatively quiet. Like other reviews state, one can watch TV while shredding (total plus since I had a ton to shred)...and I love the fact that you can shred quite a bit of paper at the same time. The lights that indicate how much paper you can put in at one time is pretty useful. And the best part is, if you put too much paper in there (though the red light will go on), it will still shred it for you. The plastic bags that accompany this product aren't anything to write home about, so I wouldn't waste money on purchasing replacements. The basket is relatively easy to empty, and yes, you'll have the small shredded scraps of paper on the ground as you empty the basket, but I'm pretty sure that would be the case for all shredders with a basket. The wheels are a total bonus because I can easily move it from my office in front of the TV for my massive shredding chores. Just remember that you should use the shredder lubricant sheets to keep everything running smoothly. This product comes with a small bottle of oil, but the shredder lubricant sheets are less messy and I'm all about convenience and efficiency. I've had this product for about two weeks now and I'm completely satisfied with this purchase. I'm even more happy to know that with this Fellowes shredder, I won't have to purchase a new one for at least five more years.

We replaced our old shredder at home with this model and couldn't be happier. It is quiet, very well made and has useful information with its lit up panel: you are putting too much in, the drawer is open (where the bag goes in) etc. We are shredding old bills and documents and this is working very well for us. The cord can fit underneath it and it is very easy to roll around.

Is a joy to use.
It has two switches to flip and the on light is very blue! (so you know it's on and ready to shred)
Safety sensors are a great feature. and the max 12 pages is very accurate. I put in 13 pages and that was too much for it. You give it 13 pages and it hauls through the pages just fine.
This Fellowes shredder is an upgrade from a cheaper strip cut trash can top type shredder and I am happy with this purchase.
I have shredding sessions that are fun now.

I resisted buying a shredder for a long time because the last thing we needed in the computer room was something else to plug in. But, my husband recently retired and he could no longer take our shreddables to work to do it there. I did a lot of research before purchasing this shredder. We have had it for almost two months and find it to be a welcome addition to our home. Love, the sexy blue back-lit power light.
Be warned that it will, in no way, shred 12 sheets of paper at one time but that is not an issue for us as we are normally only shredding single or at most 3-4 sheets at a time. It takes everything we throw at it with out a hitch and my kids love to shred old CD's, again, without any hesitation. We don't really need the safety sensor but if it's still around when the grand kids start arriving I suppose we will be glad we have it. The bin holds quite a lot and I appreciate only having to pull the bin out and empty a bag versus pulling a heavy bulky blade unit off the top and having no hands left to empty the bin. We really appreciate the cross-cut capability. Besides the security, it allows more bin capacity and the pieces drop straight down like stones and do not fly all over the place when you clean the blades. It is well constructed, almost reaching heavy duty industrial quality and it is well suited to our home use. I did not purchase ours from Amazon as there seems to be some question over the description of 'all metal gears'. I didn't want any snafus so went another route, paying the same and getting free shipping and since then have found that 'all metal gears' has disappeared from the Amazon description. Don't know if ours is all metal gears or not but it is not an issue with its demonstrated great performance.

My husband and I recently purchased a Fellowes Paper Shredder, #PS79ci,
and it is one of the best purchases we have ever made. We had stacks
of bank statements, and other important papers that we did not want to
place in the trash, as important information could fall into the
wrong hands and all but destroy us financially. We had bags of these
papers stashed in the garage, and only had a small paper shredder. We
finally decided that we would buy a large shredder, and first checked out
the Fellowers Paper Shredder in an office supply store. We decided on the
PS79ci and when we received it from Amazon.com, we put it to use almost
immediately, and in one or two afternoons, we had shredded all these
papers. It is so quite and even though it advertises that it will take
10-12 sheets of paper at a time, we find it works best with no more than
4-6 sheets of paper. The size is great as it does not have to be emptied
as often as a smaller unit. We are so pleased with our purchase, and
when ordered, it was less than a week that we received it. The Fellowes
Company stands behind their products and if ever we needed another paper
shredder, we would not hesitate buying from them again...although I
believe this will last for many years. Purchasing this shredder from
Amazon gave us free delivery and no tax, so we saved money by not buying
it locally.
