Man, this machine just destroys and shreds ANYTHING! At my job, I hold the highly coveted title of "Executive Document Shredder" so not to sound arrogant, but I know a thing or two about shredders. When I arrived on the first day for my job, I was absolutely horrified to discover a 2001 paper shredder. Atrocious. I demanded they purchase a machine that would reciprocate my level of document shredding. The company listened and now I am happily sitting in the copy/mail room for 9 straight hours, 6 days a week, shredding important documents. I have had my PS80C-2 for a little over 2 years. My cutterhead supposedly had a 20 year warranty. I regularly (every shredding session) oil the cutters with canola oil (recommended in the owner's manual) and my useage is well below the claimed duty rating. Recently, the unit began to jam more frequently and the shreds started exiting as a single mass rather than as loose shreds. I called customer support and they had me inspect the bottom of the cutterhead for broken or missing plastic fingers. Several were missing. Even though these fingers are an integral part of the cutterhead and the cutter head won't function without them, Fellowes claims that they are not part of the cutterhead and that they are not covered by warranty. Still worse, they are not an available part so my only recourse (according to Fellowes) is to buy a new shredder! Fellowes self-serving definition as to what is part of the "cutterhead" and what is not is at best dishonest. Don't buy a Fellowes shredder for the warranty as they will define themselves out of honoring it. I did get a couple of years of use out of it though. So, if you can get a reconditioned unit really inexpensively, it might be worth a shot as a disposable product.

This is my third shredder. My last shredder (about $60 and a cross-cut shredder) lasted about 3 months before the motor went. I spent a lot of time researching available shredders and I knew that I had to spend more money if I was to get something that would last.

This shredder is excellent. I decided to buy a Fellowes brand because I purchased other Fellowes products for my small business, and they have performed wonderfully.

This shredder is built with the small office in mind. The motor is powerful, the feed is smooth, and the throat is wide. It is on the louder side but only because it is a strong motor. You can "hear" with every shred that this machine will stand up to the challenge of daily shredding of a small office for many years.

This is a strip-cut shredder and it provides satifactory security if that is a concern of yours. Although the cross-cut shredders provide a bit more security (because they shred into smaller pieces), I personally do not think they are worth the added cost and much shorter lifespan. This shredder has some nice features (you can see when it needs emptying and it lets you know if the basket is not aligned with the shredder/motor), but these are not important - it's all about how well this machine shreds, and how it can stand up to the demands of the office.

I am very happy with the performance of this shredder and I would buy another one.

None of these homeowner shredders are designed to run more than maybe 10% duty cycle. I'm the first to admit that I don't follow the directions. We stuff more sheets in it than it can handle; run it straight for 20 minutes and don't allow it to cool down. I typically only let it rest when it starts to "smell a little electrical." Yet after all this, it still works fine. I'd recommend it.

At first.. it was great. But the more we used it, the more frequently it jammed. And the harder it became to clear those jams. If you need something for "light to moderate" shredding, it'll be fine. But if you have lots of stuff to shred (such as when you are moving or just getting rid of boxes of paper in the actic), this is not what I would recommend. Mine jammed for the LAST TIME today. After working nearly an hour to try and unjam it, I'm done.. it's going in the trash, and I'm replacing it with a shredder that's less likely to jam.

This unit did an adequate job for two years until splitting one of its gears. Overheating was a constant annoyance for any but the smallest shredding jobs. Perhaps I expected too much of a low-end shredder, but even if 10 sheets is too much for it, it should protect itself better against permanent damage.

I bought this shredder from mmoreforless on Amazon and they did not say it was refurbished. It arrived wrapped in dirty paper towels (to soak up the leaking oil) and in a torn Little Debbie Snack Cakes box. Maybe okay from ebay, but not from Amazon.



But the shredder works fine. It is permanently stained from the oil, but is useable.

I often rely on these reviews so I want to let you know how much I LOVE this little shredder!

It IS small...that is the beauty of it...it is small, but powerful! It shreds credit cards. I like that.

It takes up a very small space and is not tall, so you can easily put it on a desk surface and use it as you open all of the pieces of junk mail!

Of course, it isn't practical if you have huge bundles of papers to shred...you'd need a larger machine. But for the everyday mail and paper shredding that I do, it is really great. You do have to fold the full sized papers, but when I get mail, I just put the pre-folded junk into the shredder. For the convenience of this machine, I don't mind having to fold the paper on those few times that it is necessary.

I used to have one of those larger shredders that fit over a waste basket, but it was too big, kept tipping over, and was noisy.

I'm telling you...I really love this little shredder and I am very happy that I found it.

Yes, this shredder is quite small, but for personal use it works quite well. It's ideal for putting it on a desk so it doesn't take up much room but you can still use it to shred receipts and such. It shreds everything into nice tiny pieces and is easy to dump out into the trash.

Recently returned this item due to the fact it would not meet our needs. Item was smaller than I thought although if I had read the entire description, I would have known and not purchased it. Total size is about as big as a large coffe can and the opening is very small. To shred a regular size paper, you would have to fold it in half the long way and insert it. I guess it would work if you wanted a small shredder on your desk and only shredded credit card receipts and such. Picture was a little misleading on size.

The smallest shredder I have ever seen in my life~!!" I bought it for my home office use, and spent hrs researching for the best kind to buy, reading review, and etc. I finally got my "well researched" item in hand,....and and...~!!! Well, I guess I will have to stay with this for a while. It is UGLY design and color to go with it. Besides its Made in USA. SIGH...........SUCK. Will see how I will get used to this tiny machine sitting in my home office.....may be I will spray paint it, since its so ugly. As far as Size, I can not help it.....I can not imagine anyone would make such small paper shredder~! What were they thinking?

This shredder is not a real bang for your buck but it will do the job. After a couple of sheets it does seem to labor sometimes. When maintenance is performed it does well for a while. I did try to shred a credit card through this shredder and it made me think that I was breaking the unit. I had to back it out and that was the last time I'll do that. Overall, it will get he job done for your regular bills and top secret papers but I wouldn't go any further than that.

I'm looking for a new shedder and I have to vent about this one. I got mine at office depot and lost receipt. When cleaning it, sheds land up everywhere. You can't see how full it is and it is possible for the shreds to feed back up into the shedder. It is supposed to take a credit card and jammed up. It died. Waste of money.

I ordered this shreddrer sometime last month and just pulled it out today to use - I was so excited. According to Consumer Reports this is one of the Top 3 Shreddrers. I put 1-2 pieces of paper to shred and it jams. I have spent about an hour trying to remove the jammed paper which it seems most of it is gone, but it still won't shred. Thank God I have another shredder that I've had for years which wasn't even listed by Consumers Reports - sometimes you have to go with the no name brands. I do not reccommend this product!!

I initially bought this model for my mother. Her previous shredder was the kind that was a one piece unit; top was the shredder, motor and plug, bottom was the basket. To empty, you have to take the top off the trash basket part and dump. The problem is my mother is 72 and that top was really heavy for her poor arm strength. The other negative was that it shredded in strips. I bought her this model because it was a confetti cutter AND it shreds up to 12 sheets. Needless, to say, I did try 12 sheets. It cut, but was definitely slower and noisier with that many sheets. I like the pull out drawer, it's lighter and less of a hassle to use. I liked hers so much, I bought myself one.



I've had my shredder now for about a year now and have never had any problems with durability or quality. Are there some quirks? Yes, if the shredder basket gets too full it is difficult to pull it out. There also probably no avoiding having confetti on the floor at some point. It helps if you tip it backwards a little when pulling out the drawer. I then just vacuum out the inside. I figure it's my reminder that it's time to vacuum. I really like my shredder and it's perfect for my moderate, home office use. It would probably not have a large enough capacity for a large office, but works fine for me.

I bought this shredder to replace a previous strip-cut shredder that was too weak and small for my home-needs. My fiance appreciated the fact that it looks similar to a desktop computer, and preferred it to the models where the shred-paper is visible.



So far I've found it more than hefty enough for the task. Most standard size bills and promotional credit card mailers that I prefer to shred can be put through as is without opening them. When it does jam, it's easy enough to get it unstuck, in extreme cases by turning off the 'safe sense' finger monitor.



The one drawback of this model, is that removing the output tray inevitably drops shreds of paper all over the floor. If you have cleaning staff emptying the shredder, this isn't an issue. However, if you are using this at home, prepare to have a dustbuster handy each time you empty the bin. For home, I recommend considering one of the models which will accept a garbage bag inside the catch-bin to avoid this messy process.

I looked at lots of reviews before deciding on this shredder. Here are my first impressions after a day of use. It has a solid feeling as the result of the one piece body. The waste basket slides into the body. In some reviews there were complaints about the basket capacity. I have not found this to be an issue. I shredded a fair amount of paper in my first use and its capacity was fine for my light office use. There were also complaints about the basket being hard to remove if you allow it to overfill. I haven't experienced this but by its design I can imagine that might be true. The shredder easily shredded 8 pages of fairly heavy copier paper I haven't tried more than that yet but it is rated at 12 pages. One reviewer mentioned they did not like the proximity safety shutoff feature. This hasn't bothered me and there is a switch on the side to disable the feature. The on/off switch is a bit stiff but not unreasonably so and like the other reviewer infered is probably that way on purpose. I am pleased with this shredder. The unit is quieter and shreds more pages than my prior shredder would have handled. I gave this 4 stars only because I don't have means to assess durability yet.

I received this shredder just the other day and it is powerful. It shreds everything very quickly and efficiently. In fact, I shredded a lot of junk mail. I would just stick the entire unopened envelope into the machine and it would chew it up. The credit card and CD feature is very handy as well. You just drop the card into the slot.



If you are shedding a lot of stuff, I found it easiest to set the box of material on top of the machine and keep feeding it. With smaller machines, the motor overheads and you have to give it 1/2 hr to cool off. I didn't have this problem with this unit. Just keep oiling the blades whenever you hear a squeaking sound when the blades stop.



Do realize that since it is a cross cut output, the waste is fluffy. You have to crush it down and eventually empty the trash. You can use the typical yard waste bag as opposed to the OEM trash bag.

We had an old Canon shredder...steel cabinet, very heavy. It finally bit the dust. We've had little luck with the cheaper plastic shredders. This has a plastic top and MDF (fiberboard) cabinet. So...cheaper, but has been performing well so far. We'll check back in approx. 20 years and let you know if it beats out the old Canon.



Keep a bottle of shredder oil on-hand. It's easiest to hide it inside the cabinet at the back. Whenever you change bags, just push the bottle back into the corner of the cabinet. Very frustrating when you're working on the weekend and a "helpful" office admin has locked up the supplies. Use oil once a month or more to keep it running smoothly and quietly. No jams yet. Knock on pseudo-wood.



Definitely lighter than older all-steel units. One able-bodied person can wheel it around. Quiet enough to place in the general office area (near cubicles). Does not put off much dust. But, keep a broom or vacuum in the office. The small bags tend to dump a bit out the top. Use a bigger bag if you can.



This will shred staples, CDs, cards, file folders, and an occasional (accidental) paper clip. Would not try to overstuff, as even the big units will break the nylon combs...it's not the steel cutters that break.



Search Amazon for "magnetic tray". Buy one with free Amazon Prime shipping. Put one of these on/near to encourage users to remove paper clips before shredding.



Good for the shredder. Good for recycling.

We replaced a smaller shredder with the 4200CC. What a difference! Great shredder and hardly every jams. Takes a lot of sheets at one time. Really shreds the paper. Only negative is relatively small bag for the size of the unit. It takes about 1000 sheets to fill. Sounds like a lot but it fills up fast. On the positive side it is easy and fast to change bags.
