 "shredder that doesnt SHRED" 2009-06-04
By Laura E. Sweeney
I just got this shredder today, very excited to shred my bills, and after about 3 pieces of paper, the thing stopped shredding 1/2 of the paper. it only shreds the edges and leaves the middle part of the paper which is where the confidential information i was trying to shred is... leaves that just perforated... defeats the purpose really if you have to go back and pull the pieces apart... dont get this shredder

 "As it turns out...." 2009-05-29
By Gr33n4blu3 (Virginia, United States)
It looks like my initial purchase of 2,500 sheets of paper was an abject failure. Oh well.

I made the Think Tank purchase (yes, in pink) to take care of my vast paper problem. Ultimately purchasing the hand crank version might have been a mistake...

But first let me address the first cause of concern - yes, while it says up to 9 inches in width, I can also confirm that it can shred up to 9 pages. It's not easy, but with my superior right arm strength I was able to work up enough velocity to dice up 9 sheets of paper. I'll warn you, I've spent years developing this strength with a nightly ritual of... speed and hand grip drills. You know, for business reasons - you gotta have a strong handshake these days. I started around the nubile age of 11 and have gone almost nonstop ever since, with one exception. I broke my arm around my 23rd birthday while hailing a cab in New York city. This lead to my exploitation of a technique known as, "The Stranger".

Anywhoo....

When I initially purchased this product I thought I'd be saving money and dealing with a problem in a constructive, environmentally friendly, way. Unfortunately after a solid 3 1/2 minutes my arm was completely burnt out. I was panting and sweating like Mel Gibson on Hanukkah. I'd made it through 45 sheets.

The next day I tried grinding up other items. Credit cards are nicely diced. Cardboard and cigarettes require a bit of manipulation, but can be shredded. I tried using the shredder as a meat grinder - it did work, but the mess was unbelievable. Plus, I don't know about you, but I'm not wild about eating a burger with paper and plastic shrapnel in it.

I gave it three stars because the handle broke on my unit. Certainly they should have designed a model with much sturdier components. The designers should have foreseen its customers using a wrench to turn the crank in an effort to grind up drywall to fit angled rooms.

"Nice little shredder for the price." 2008-09-05
By L. Gordon (DFW, Texas)
I just needed a shredder for home use. I didn't want to spend a lot but I was tired of have to "self" shred those few papers a month that I needed to destroy.

This little shredder fits the bill. It is small, nicely designed and does the job. It is small enough to fit right on top of my tiny little "bill paying" desk. It easily shreds up the papers I shred in a month with little hassle.

The only reason I took away a single star is because the description said it could do 9 pages at a time. This is not true. It struggles through more then 2. Even with 2 pages it can take a good amount of force to turn the crank. You are better off just doing one page at a time.

I say for the price you can not beat this little shredder for a personal home use way to destroy small amounts of paper. I would not recommend this however for ANY type of business use or high volume use.
