I've used it for less than a year. Already fixed it once by taking the thing apart. Just broke again. Not going to bother with it again... I'm getting a better one.
Overheats very easily too.
Has trouble with credit cards even though it's supposed to shred them just fine.
Summed up... Royal shredders are GARBAGE. Other than the motor and the blade it's all plastic components.

It amazes me how every shredder on Amazon has some negative review that states it's the worst thing since Hitler. Every shredder regardless of price needs to be oiled in order to prevent the paper particles from drying out the gears. Buy paper shredder lube or if that's too messy get the 8x12 oiled paper sheets that they sell at Staples or any office supply store.
And try not to be Ollie North and shred 500 pages in one sitting. When the shredder breaks down that's not a manufacturing defect, that's basic science.

I bought this shredder and another model at the same time. This one is just not measuring up. It jams all the time and just doesn't work as well as I think it should!

I had hoped for a shredder that was easy to use and to store. I got both. I expect many years of use from it.

I just got the shredder and it couldn't even shred 4 sheets of paper. It seemed to struggle with shredding just 2 sheets of paper. I've had other shredders before and none of them were this poorly made.

Wow, I must be extremely lucky or just blessed with my Royal HT500X shredder. I have had it for years and it hasn't broke down once. I find it reliable and I have to admit it I maintain it by using the lubricant papers. Mind you I don't stuff it with lots of paper to shred at once. Smaller amounts just makes sense for a light weight shredder and I don't run it for hours on end. It's not meant to be a heavy duty shredder and should be used for home use not for shredding large volumes of paper at a time. I love my Royal and it's a great little shredder. A little love & common sense goes a long way with anything.
