I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this review, especially since the item is no longer available (I wonder why). I've been using this shredder for about a month now and it does have a few nice features - It has a separate slot to shred CDs/DVDs and another for Credit Cards. There are two things that I don't like about it - the SLIDE-OUT WASTEBASKET and the fact that the business end of the shredder is permanently attached to the body. The waste basket could hold a lot more if the shredding mechanism sat on top of it instead of being attached. The biggest gripe I have is that it is very difficult to pick out those pieces of paper that stick onto the cutters and around the ends (especially as the unit ages and the blades get dull). Going by all the cross-cut shredders I have used, they all seem to suffer from the same problem as they age - the shredded paper fragments tend to wrap around both ends of the shaft that the cutting blades are attached to. If the top part was removable it would make cleaning very easy and perhaps extend the life of the shredder.

I purchased this shredder about a year ago to replace a strip cut Fellowes product rated at 7 sheets. Actually it was free using CC point but that is another story... The Fellowes shredder though rated for a lower number of sheets is significantly more powerful. The 10 sheet rating on this machine is nonsense. Maybe it will shred 10 sheets the first time you use it but that will be the last time. I am scared to put any more than three sheets at a time through it because it jams. Just yesterday it got completely stuck on only 5 checks. It wouldn't even reverse. I had to take it apart to remove the stuck checks. This product should be rated at three sheets. I would not buy this shredder again.

I bought this shredder last year but rarely use it. I have only shred about 500 pages so far - low volume - yet the trigger feature is already broken. The shredder stays on when switched on and heats up after multiple use. It also did not properly shred a credit card - so I do not trust trying a second one. Suggest looking elsewhere if you want a decent shredder, but if you want a cheap shredder - this should work.

I absolutely HATE this shredder. This was a gift from my son. This is the 3rd one we had from Royal. The first two also were Royal but a cheaper model. They didn't work so we took them back, frustrated, and opted for a more expensive model, 85MX, hopefully to eliminate the problems. This only works when it feels like it. The "trigger" mechanism sucks. If it works at all, it comes on for a split second then stops. Then you have to put it in reverse for it to function again. Then if you don't "hit" the "trigger" just the way it likes at the moment, you have to go through the whole process again. My prior shredder was a cheap $10 one which worked fantastic but I wanted a crosscut and this is the junk I got. If it wouldn't be that my son got it for me as a gift, I would throw it away. I will never buy any Royal product again.

If you're thinking of getting a shredder, do NOT get this one. It's junk. Before the bin is even half full, the thing is jammed. It has a cross bar that blocks part of where the shredded paper exits its teeth which is part of the problem with it jamming.



Overall, the shredder is so poorly designed, and works so badly, I'd think twice before ever buying a Royal product again.

I would have given Five Stars if this came in Black, to match my monitor and most monitors in the market now. But I recommend this to everyone! So easy to attach even to my flat screen monitor. Once it has shredded something, the shredded paper is cut in such large strips that you can still "EASILY" read whatever is printed on them! This is due to the fact that the paper is cut horitizontally along the printing. It is not cut vertically. If you want to shred the paper vertically, you must tear it in half so it fits in the slot then feed it through (one piece at a time!) from top to bottom, but even then you can still read the printing on the strips, but of course it doesn't make as much sense reading it this way. I've used it for less than a year. Already fixed it once by taking the thing apart. Just broke again. Not going to bother with it again... I'm getting a better one.



Overheats very easily too.



Has trouble with credit cards even though it's supposed to shred them just fine.



Summed up... Royal shredders are GARBAGE. Other than the motor and the blade it's all plastic components.

It amazes me how every shredder on Amazon has some negative review that states it's the worst thing since Hitler. Every shredder regardless of price needs to be oiled in order to prevent the paper particles from drying out the gears. Buy paper shredder lube or if that's too messy get the 8x12 oiled paper sheets that they sell at Staples or any office supply store.



And try not to be Ollie North and shred 500 pages in one sitting. When the shredder breaks down that's not a manufacturing defect, that's basic science.

This shredder was great when we first purchased it for our IT office. However, within 7 months of use, it started automatically running without stopping and almost overheated during the weekend. Fellowes provides a warranty but the warranty consists of a list of your local repair people to call and then waiting 7-10 days for the actual repair to take place. All in all I wouldn't spend the money on this machine or the company again.

I've been needing a paper shredder for quite some time now. It's so tiring to rip up paper with sensitive information on it into bits and pieces! So I did some research online on the models that I had an interest in and went out to the physical stores and did a price comparison.



I came across the B&D CC800 at Wal-Mart and it was priced at only $59.88. I noticed that it had the power boost feature which seemed quite interesting. This was around the price that I was willing to spend, so I purchased it. With tax, it came out to be only $64.52 and I didn't have to wait for it to be shipped to me.



I went home, opened up the box and it had a really appealing looking to it compared to the ugly one that they had on sale at Office Max for $39.99 and that thing did the ugly diamond cuts. Yuck!



So I read the instruction and then test drived my new paper shredder. It sounded just as loud as my Fellowes shredder that suddenly died one day after releasing out a burnt smell. Even though it says 8 sheets, I am not going to overwork my shredder. Because I really want it to last this time! So I'll rest my shredder and use it more sparingly this time.



PROS: Nice and elegant look to it. The protective lid and power boost are such great features on this machine. It does the beautiful cross cut shreds and it does the job!



CONS: It would have been better if the lid popped up by itself all the way instead of us having to lift it and move it to its position. The slit to put the paper in seems rather small, but I guess you'll get the hang of it once you get used to it.



Overall, it's a really nice paper shredder by Black & Decker! I would recommend it to anybody that's on a budget and needs a paper shredder that can get the job done. If you'll be shredding a lot of paper all day long, then you should consider forking out the money and getting something that's more heavy duty. I would say that this is more of a medium duty shredder. Lastly, don't forget to lubricate your paper shredder from time-to-time to extend its life, so that it can function as if it is still a new paper shredder.
