I was looking for a reasonably inexpensive home version of the micro shredder at my office. I like the security of the tiny shreds these micro shredders make.
This shredder fits that bill. In many respects it's like the regular Royal crosscut shredder it replaces in my home office. It's noisy and not all that powerful. But it will chew through a credit card offer with its fake plastic credit card still inside the envelope.
I had wanted a larger wastebasket with my new shredder, and this one is marginally bigger. But what I realized I really wanted was just less work emptying the bin. This is where a micro-shredder shines. I keep checking the bin because I'm absolutely sure the pile of shreds is about to jam up the blades like my old shredder did--
And nothing. These shreds are so tiny they don't wad up into a ball so easily. They pack tighter. You can shred A LOT more paper into this thing without emptying the bin than you can a regular crosscut shredder.
So if you want high security plus convenience, this one is a good choice. There may be other micro shredders out there that cost less or deliver less noise or more power for comparable dollars. I don't know. But I like this one. It does what I wanted it to do, and is much less of a hassle than your run of the mill shredder.
Nothing to get passionate about. Just a good appliance.
